Samantha Sleeper’s AW 2011 collection was inspired by the film direction of Zhang Yimou and shown on the beautiful rooftop of the Gramercy Park Hotel – a perfect setting for this delicate collection. It was full of multiple layers of different laces and beading which is Sleepers signature.
This is Sleeper’s first collection after leaving NPRPA and very much embodies who she is as a designer, focusing on the feminine through silhouette, clean lines and of course more lace. I miss the more geometric elements from her previous collections with NPRPA such as the hand embroidered highway pattern and her raw edged gowns, and I would have liked to see a few more pieces from Sleeper for her inaugural collection, but I will just have to wait until next season.
Once again she has called on milliner Melissa Bolin of Kitty Andrews Millinery to make small collection of small hats this season. As always a perfect pairing.
